BAGUIO CITY – In a bid to further make transactions with the city government easier and more accessible, payment using the online financial platform GCash is now allowed.
“We want to give our taxpayers more ease in transacting with us. We are still negotiating with other online providers and banks that can accommodate the online payment of clients of the city,” Mayor Benjamin Magalong said in a recent media interview.
The approval of digital transactions followed the signing of an agreement between the city government and GCash during the last week of March.
Upon payment, the GCash subscriber will receive a notification through text and/or in-app notification if transaction is successful or not.
GCash is an online payment facility registered with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas as a licensed remittance agent and electronic money issuer for remittance services and mobile payment solutions.
City treasurer Alex Cabarrubias said the online system will spare residents from long lines at the city hall.
Prior to the GCash payment acceptance, the city allowed online payment but the process was more complicated and required confirmation through email.
With the GCash transaction, clients can pay using their mobile phone anytime, which adheres to the government’s call for ease in doing business. (PNA)
