The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has warned the public about persons posing as PPA agents and asking for money for the processing of fake packages from overseas.
In a public advisory, the agency said the scam involves persons pretending to work for the PPA who show fake sales invoices to their intended victims to convince them they have a package from overseas.
“They will then ask for a large amount of money to pay for port service and equipment, including duties and taxes for the baggage, before these are released and sent to their home,” the advisory said.
PPA said they don’t work with package handlers or logistics companies that handle packages going through PPA ports.” Always be critical. Be vigilant against these scams,” it said.
