The Philippine Medical Association (PMA) has warned the public about the increasing dengue cases nationwide.
Department of Health (DOH) reports indicated that 45,416 dengue cases were recorded from January 1 to June 11. The figure is 45% higher than the 31,320 cases reported during the same period last year.
PMA Director Benito Atienza said in a televised public briefing that the public “should be alarmed,” sharing that in Singapore where he recently attended a medical confederation conference, there were more dengue deaths than Covid-19 fatalities.
The top three regions that recorded the most number of dengue cases include Central Visayas (13%), Central Luzon (12%) and the Zamboanga Peninsula (10%).
Atienza reminded the public that dengue cases are not among children only, and others, including senior citizens could get it.
