BAGUIO CITY – Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cordillera Administrative Region Director Khadaffy Tanggol has advised motorists to observe speed and load limits and to drive defensively when traversing the roads in the region.

“Especially if they are not from the Cordillera, they should watch out for the curves of our roads, descending and ascending and watch out for falling rocks, which are not unusual in the region,” Tanggol said.
With their mountainous terrain, Cordillera provinces have narrow, steep, and slippery roads especially during rainy days. Precaution and preparedness are thus needed before traveling to the region.
Tanggol said DPWH also strives to ensure the safety of roads by constantly improving them and installing road signs, turn-plastics and streetlights. He said DPWH-CAR is now preparing for their annual “Lakbay Alalay” program to assist motorists visiting the Cordillera in time for the coming Holy Week.
Among the services the agency will offer are direction assistance and repair of vehicles incurring technical problems. “Especially first-time drivers in Baguio who are not familiar with the terrain, they usually suffer from overheating and are unable to climb the ascends so we have to assist them),” Tanggol said.
