“SCIENCE IS THE BEDROCK OF GOVERNANCE”- Mayor Christina “Tin” Antonio, Alcala Cagayan

With the influence of science on people’s lives, the Department of Science and Technology Region 02 (DOST RO2) hosted a collaborative meeting with the municipal Mayor of Alcala Cagayan Christina “Tin” Antonio and her team to provide S&T solutions to local priorities and concerns of their municipality.

“They say science is not part of the government, but I am so happy to discover that science is the bedrock of governance.” Hon. Antonio said during the meeting.

DOST Region 02 awarded 10 units of portable solar drying trays and provided P300,000 Grant-In-Aid in support to the Corn processing center project in Alcala town.

Thankful of the project, Hon. Antonio expressed her gratitude to DOST 02 and its regional director for the continuous support in municipality’s S&T activities.

Hon. Antonio also presented possible collaborations on Research and Development in the municipality, assistance in Packaging and Labeling, Review Lessons for DOST Scholarship program, Bamboo Tissue Culture Laboratory and among others.

To further strengthen the S&T collaboration in the municipality, Dir. Mabborang proposed the establishment of the Municipal Science & Technology Action Group (MSTAG), the S&T policymaking body initiated by DOST R02 for municipalities and cities in Region 02.

The ceremony was also attended by the three ARDs, Teresita A. Tabaog, Mary Ann Maglasin, Virgina Bilgera, the Provincial Director of Cagayan Engr. Sylvia Lacambra who presented the DOST Region O2’s programs and projects and other DOST R02 personnel. (DOST-2)
