MANILA, (PIA) — The Philippine Information Agency – National Capital Region (PIA-NCR) is set to hold the first Rainbow Care Caravan: Ang Araw na Itech ay Para Sayis (This Day is for You), a special event dedicated to the well-being of elderly members of the LGBTQ+ community, in line with the celebration of Pride Month.
The event, scheduled for June 20, 2024, at Fort Santiago in Intramuros, Manila, aims to provide medical assistance, foster community connections, raise awareness about the challenges faced by this demographic, and promote social inclusion.
“This initiative highlights the importance of ensuring healthcare accessibility and social support for our LGBTQ+ elders,” explained PIA-NCR Regional Director Emver P. Cortez.
Focus on health and community
PIA-NCR Information Officer and Project Manager Jumalynne V. Doctolero said the Rainbow Care Caravan will offer free medical consultations, health check-ups, and enrollment assistance in PhilHealth’s Konsulta program.
The event also aims to connect Golden Bekis, an organization for gay men aged 55 and above, with Golden Gays, another LGBTQ+ group, to strengthen their network and share resources, Doctolero added.
