Manila, 27 July 2021 – Chargé d’Affaires, en pied and Consul General Juan E. Dayang, Jr. paid a courtesy call on Secretary of Labor and Employment Silvestre H. Bello III this morning at the DOLE’s Office of the Secretary in Intramuros, Manila.
During his call, Consul General Dayang discussed the situation of Filipino workers currently in Libya, and in view of the increasing political stability in the country and once the alert levels were lowered or removed, the possible return of new workers and recallees through a “selective deployment.” He also requested Secretary Bello for the possible deployment of a welfare attaché (an OWWA representative) who will provide additional support to Filipinos in Libya.
Consul General Dayang affirmed that the Embassy will ensure the highest protection for Filipinos in Libya as well as in Algeria, Chad, Niger, and Tunisia, which are under its jurisdiction.
Also present were Administrators Bernardo P. Olalia and Hans Leo J. Cacdac of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and the Overseas Welfare Workers Administration, respectively, and Director Alice Q. Visperas of DOLE-International Labor Affairs Bureau.
