Retired Iloilo Archbishop and former Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) president Angel Lagdameo, 81, has now passed away.
In its Facebook post, the Jaro Archdiocese in Iloilo said “Archbishop Angel Lagdameo has returned to our Creator. “Let us include him in our prayers and Masses,” it added.
Lagdameo was ordained on December 19, 1964 and first assigned to a parish in Lucena City. He was appointed as Cebu auxiliary bishop in June 1980.
In January 1986, Lagdameo was designated as co-adjutor bishop of Dumaguete where he became bishop of the diocese in May 1989.
He was named archbishop of Jaro on March 11, 2000 and later served as CBCP president from December 2005 to December 2009. He was also the vice president of the CBCP for two terms.
