LEGAZPI CITY – The provinces of Camarines Sur, Albay, and Sorsogon have sent aid to Masbate province which has severely been ravaged by Severe Tropical Storm Opong.
Camarines Sur has dispatched a mobile command center to serve as a hub for its aid operations and 131 disaster response personnel, 15 chainsaws, 10 Starlink satellites, 150 tents, generator sets, and a Veragon air-to-water facility, which captures water from the air.
It has also mobilized several vehicles, including a mobile diagnostic van staffed by four doctors, 10 nurses, three medical technologists, two radiologists, a sonographer, and a pharmacist, as well as a dental van with three dentists, lorry trucks to supply water, and utility vehicles for logistical support.
Governor Luis Raymund Villafuerte of Camarines Sur said they are always ready to help in times of calamity. “In times of disaster, Camarines Sur does not stand by; we show up. When Filipinos are in need, we respond,” he said in a post.
Albay has also provided P1 million financial aid, along with two trucks of water, sanitation supplies, and domestic water trucks staffed with 20 personnel. Governor Noel Rosal called for unity to support Masbate, urging collective efforts to rebuild and restore hope among Masbate folks.
“This is a time for humanity to rise above borders and differences. Together, we can help rebuild homes, restore livelihoods, and bring hope back to the people of Masbate,” Rosal added.
Sorsogon, for its part, said it will also send heavy equipment, logistical vehicles, and personnel. “We’ve all experience typhoons. Our brothers and sisters in Masbate need help. That’s why we’ll immediately send a delegation,” Sorsogon Governor Edwin Hamor said in a post.
Meanwhile, the city government of Legazpi City has also pledged P500,000 for Masbate City. “In times of disaster, unity, care, and generosity are crucial to ease the burden of our affected brothers and sisters,” Legazpi City Mayor Hisham Ismail said.
Masbate Governor Richard Kho has conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to all those who sent aid to his province. “To all those who have extended their hands to the province of Masbate, thank you very much,” he said in an interview.
Kho assured his constituents Masbate would recover from the calamity. “Makakabangon tayo (We will rise from this),” he assured. (PNA)
