MANILA — The Manila local government unit (LGU) has extended much-needed financial support to around 300 cancer patients and individuals undergoing dialysis treatment.
This cash aid was personally distributed by Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan during a special “People’s Day” program held on Sunday, July 14, at the Bulwagang Villegas in Manila City Hall.
During the event, Mayor Honey, who is also a doctor, took the time to speak with each beneficiary, learn about their medical conditions, and assure them of the city government’s commitment to helping alleviate their hospital bills.
One grateful patient shared, “I’m so happy because she helps all the patients. Everyone left the venue with a smile, especially me. Now I have money to buy medicine.”
The financial assistance was provided to address the high costs associated with treating cancer and kidney diseases, which the mayor described as “very costly.” The beneficiaries were recommended by their respective barangays.
In addition to the assistance distributed at the event, Mayor Lacuna also made it a point to personally deliver cash incentives to bedridden elderly residents by visiting them in their homes. She is often accompanied by Manila Vice Mayor John Marvin Yul Servo Nieto during the city’s weekly “Kalinga sa Maynila” community outreach program.
The mayor’s hands-on approach and the provision of this critical financial support underscore the Manila local government’s commitment to supporting the city’s most vulnerable residents and ensuring they have access to essential healthcare services. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
