Catholic Church launches Poll Campaign prayer

The Catholic Clergy and other church leaders now pray during online and face-to-face masses the their prayer for candidates aspiring for national and local positions in the May 9 elections.

The Manila Cathedral, in a Facebook post, said the clergy and the faithful have also started their “Prayer Power Campaign.” The prayer was earlier created by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), a Church-based election watchdog, and was supported by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

“As the candidates for the 2022 Elections kickoff today their campaigns, we also begin our prayer campaign for a peaceful, credible, and transparent elections,” the Tuesday post said.

The Manila Cathedral post said that “as endorsed by the CBCP, we will pray the PPCRV Prayer for the 2022 National and Local Elections in all our Masses. May we choose leaders according to our Christian values and teachings,” it added.

The prayer calls for Divine guidance to truly reflect the will of the electorate. “Guide our politics as you guide our lives. May our political engagement for voters and candidates bring glory to your loving name and help us grow in holiness, forever and ever. Amen,” part of the prayer reads.

The campaign period for national candidates rolled out Tuesday while campaign for local bets will start on March 25.
