Zambo City earmarks P19.8-M for students’ summer jobs

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The city government here has allocated PHP19.8 million for this year’s implementation of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) during vacation.

City Social Welfare and Development Office assistant chief, Uldarico Fabian said their SPES this year will have a total of 2,321 slots. “Those qualified to avail of the program are 15 to 30-year-old students enrolled during the current school year, and out-of-school-youths who intend to continue education in the coming school year,” he said.

Fabian said the program will be from June 19 to July 14 for the first batch of 1,222 college students, while the second batch will begin on July 17 and end August 11 for 1,099 high school students. Each of them will receive PHP11,379 for a 20-day work or PHP568.95 daily.

SPES is a joint program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and LGUS under 60%-40% funding commitment. It aims to assist poor, but deserving students and out-of-school youth to pursue their education by providing them income through employment. (PNA)
