Soldiers repair Sulu road, undertake civic action initiatives

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Filipino soldiers have taken initiatives to rehabilitate a road linking Barangay Kamuntayan and Brgy.  Upper Sinumaan in Talipao, Sulu aside from other community civic action projects.

Military troops are undertaking rehabilitation works to improve the road linking two barangays in Talipao, Sulu, to provide the residents in the area with faster and safer travel.

Brig. Gen. Antonio Bautista Jr., acting commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF)-Sulu, said the rehabilitation works cover a total of 5,789 meters or nearly 6-kilometer stretch between the two barangays that will benefit their residents and visitors.

Bautista said the road rehabilitation includes laying out of culverts and similar improvements that will the local folks to transport with ease their farm products to the market.

Ge, Bautista said the road rehabilitation initiative “symbolizes the continuous progression of peace in the area that leads to the betterment of the residents’ way of life.”

Jointly undertaking the road rehabilitation are troopers from the Philippine Army’s 1101st Infantry Brigade (Bde) under Brig. Gen. Eugenio Boquio; the 2nd Special Forces Battalion (SFB); 545th Engineer Battalion; Sulu First District Engineering Office; and the Talipao municipal government.

“Just like the road to be repaired, peace should always be given a chance to be paved for the ‘road to peace’ is everyone’s dream,” Gen Bautista said. The roar rehabilitation project is expected to be completed in four weeks time.

Aside from the roar repair project the troops have also initiated free medical and dental clinics in three Sulu municipalities – Omar, Talipao and Panglima Estino. Free medicines were also provided to patients needing them.

Beneficiaries of the undertakings include former members of the Abu Sayyaf Group, Moro National Liberation Front, and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front communities and their families.

They availed of free medical and dental services and medicines for various ailments.

The civic action program was a collaboration among military members units of the Joint Task Force -Sulu involving the PA 11th Infantry Division, 1101 Bdse, 2SFB, and the municipal governments of Talipao, Omar, and Panglima Estino. (w/PNA)
