San Juan City in Metro Manila will soon have its second high-rise, in-city socialized public housing project along F. Manalo Street in Barangay Batis that can accommodate more than 500 families. Its first is a 22-story condo structure in Barangay St. Joseph.
Sa Juan Mayor Francis Zamora and National Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr. presided over the project’s recent groundbreaking rites.
Zamora said the new condo housing project will have 549 residential units. It will be a modern, condominium-type building, with complete housing utility packages such as water and electric facilities, including 11 commercial units, 68 parking slots for cars, and 47 parking slots for motorcycles.
The condo housing units will each have at least 28 square -meter area, the monthly occupancy fees for which will not be considered as rental buy as partial or installment payments. Ownership of the units will officially be transferred to the occupant household after 30 years of religious payments.
Costing about PHP1.3 billion, the project is a cooperative undertaking of the San Juan City government and the NHA.
According to NHA chief Escalada the government will not look at the PHP1.3 billion housing fund as an expense but “as an investment for the people.” He said the state should invest in the people, which investment “pushes a social impact and social security.”
