MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has deployed two mobile desalinator/water purification machine units in Masbate to ensure the provision of safe drinking water in communities affected by typhoon Opong.

The PCG said the deployment of water purifiers is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to provide timely, effective, and life-saving assistance to disaster-hit communities. Dispatched with the purifiers were PCG technicians to operated them. Each unit can produce up to 10,000 liters of potable water per day.

The units’ combined capacity of 20,000 liters per day “will significantly support ongoing relief operations and mitigate the social impact of the typhoon,” the PCG said, adding they coordinate with the Masbate City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) to ensure the proper deployment and utilization of the equipment.
