LGU Magsaysay in MISOR adopts DOST RxBox Telehealth device

DOST-X representatives explaining the contents of the RxBox to LGU representatives, including various parts of the telehealth device needed to perform its features.

The Local Government Unit of Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental adopts the RxBox telehealth device for enhanced healthcare services in the municipality. In partnership with the Department of Science and Technology, the LGU will now make use of the unit at the Municipal Health Office.

RxBox is a multi-component system (biomedical device, electronic medical record system and telemedicine training) designed to provide better access to lifesaving health care services in isolated and disadvantaged communities nationwide.

The ceremonial turn-over held on March 31 was  held with the presence of the Municipal Mayor, Charlie Buhisan, alongside with the Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Fortunato M. Ramonal at the town hall. The department heads of the local government unit witnessed the said turn-over.

Dr. Ramonal in his acceptance speech, emphasized the features of the RxBox device and how it will positively impact the people of Magsaysay. “With its telehealth system function, easy referral of patients to tertiary hospitals will be realized”, Dr. Ramonal explained.

Mayor Buhisan expressed his gratitude to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)  for receiving the RxBox device. “Through this device, we can bring the healthcare services closer to the Filipinos”, said Mayor Buhisan. He also signified the interest of the LGU in procuring the device by the time it will be commercially available.

The RxBox telehealth device is among the Department of Science and Technology’s efforts for a “Smarter Philippines”. It is also an ICT (Information and Communications Technology) innovation designed to support the Department of Health’s call for Kalusugang Pangkalahatan or Universal Health Care. Its major goal is to provide better access to life-saving health care services in isolated and disadvantaged communities nationwide. (Jesther Marlou Orong/DOST10)
