Gaming, Creativity, and Innovation Take Center Stage at ALT + TAB Festival 2026

PASAY CITY, Philippines — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) highlighted the growing role of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in advancing the Philippine gaming and creative industries during the successful staging of the ALT + TAB Festival 2026 held on 20–21 June at the SMX Convention Center Manila.

The two-day festival gathered gamers, content creators, students, innovators, technology enthusiasts, and industry partners to celebrate Filipino talent while showcasing the expanding opportunities in game development, esports, digital creativity, and emerging technologies. Through interactive exhibits, competitions, and learning sessions, the event demonstrated how innovation is transforming passion into careers, businesses, and economic opportunities.

In his keynote message, DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. emphasized the Department’s commitment to strengthening the country’s game development ecosystem through science, technology, and innovation. He underscored that gaming and esports have evolved beyond entertainment, becoming dynamic industries that generate employment, encourage entrepreneurship, and provide platforms for Filipinos to showcase their creativity, technical expertise, and culture to the global community. Through DOST’s Esports and Game Development Program and its continued investments in the creative sector, the Department aims to cultivate a highly skilled workforce, support technology-driven enterprises, and create more opportunities for Filipino innovators and creators.

Among the festival highlights was the Game Dev Challenge Regional Winners Showcase, where aspiring Filipino game developers presented original games that reflected both technical excellence and creative storytelling. Visitors also explored the 3D Printing and Prototyping Area, which featured digital fabrication technologies that support game development, product design, and innovation. Meanwhile, the Esports Game Dev Lounge provided participants with hands-on experiences and demonstrations on how science and technology are enhancing esports, game development, and digital skills education in the country.

The festival also served as a venue for collaboration among government agencies, educational institutions, industry leaders, and aspiring developers, fostering discussions on innovation, talent development, and the future of the Philippine digital economy. By connecting emerging creators with experts and technology enablers, ALT + TAB Festival 2026 reinforced the importance of investing in Filipino talent and homegrown innovations.
