President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has named and inducted last Thursday former Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana to head the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).
The Department of National Defense (DND) congratulated Lorenzana for his appointment. DND spokesperson Arsenio Andolong said they are confident their former boss “will steer BCDA towards a stronger collaboration not only with the AFP but also with all its stakeholders for the development of vibrant economic hubs and communities in different parts of the country.”
BCDA is a government-owned and controlled development corporation dedicated to help develop former US military bases and properties into economic zones. With the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as its major beneficiary, the BCDA has contributed to the funding of the AFP Modernization Program in previous years.
The BCDA also engages in public-private partnerships to push forward public infrastructure such as tollways, airports, seaports, and also major real estate developments.
Aside from Lorenzana, President Marcos also recently inducted to their new offices several others, including former Solicitor General Jose Calida as Commission on Audit (COA) chairman; Diorella Maria Sotto-Antonio, daughter of former Senate President Vicente Sotto III, as Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chairperson;
Cesar Chavez, as Department of Transportation Undersecretary; Emerald Ridao, Undersecretary, Office of the Press Secretary; Franz Imperial and Gerald Baria, Undersecretaries, Office of the President; Cristina Cardenas Zobel, Social Secretary, Office of the President; and Honey Rose Mercado, Undersecretary, Presidential Management Staff.
