Water levels in four major Luzon dams — Angat, San Roque, Pantabangan, and Magat — remain high, enabling them to supply their customers with water until the onset of the rainy season, sometime in late May or mid-June.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) hydrologist Richard Orendain, said Saturday these dams “can very well serve their customers in May and June as we’re not anticipating water shortage there.”
He said the high water levels would enable them to meet their customers’ irrigation, power generation, and domestic needs.
For May, PAGASA forecasts above normal rainfall over the watershed where Angat Dam is and near-normal rainfall over the watersheds of San Roque, Pantabangan, and Magat dams, he added.
PAGASA estimates that by the end of May, the water level in Angat, San Roque, Pantabangan, and Magat dams would be at 196 meters, 246 meters, 198 meters, and 193 meters, respectively.
These levels are above the dams’ corresponding low water elevations of 180 meters, 225 meters, 177 meters, and 160 meters, respectively.
PAGASA also forecasts near-normal rainfall over the four dams’ watersheds in June, during which time their water levels would also likely be above the low elevations.
