Pangasinan to inaugurate new drug reformation center

URDANETA CITY, Pangasinan – The Pangasinan provincial office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) will inaugurate this month a new Balay Silangan Reformation Center in Asingan town here, the fifth in the province.

PDEA-Pangasinan director Rechie Camacho, in a video message posted on social media, said the Asingan municipal  government initiated the construction of the center which is now almost finished, and they have already inspected the facility.

“The municipal government has allotted funding for the Balay Silangan. The reformation clients from Asingan and nearby towns will be housed in the center,” Camacho shared.

He said clients of the center will undergo general interventions like continuing education, health awareness, psychological, spiritual, and physical activities such as counseling, moral recovery, values formation, and personal and life skills.

“There are three phases to the community-based rehabilitation at the center. The first phase is the mandatory in-house rehabilitation wherein clients will learn about related laws anf the the ill effects of illegal drugs. Phase 2 will involve counselling and consultation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and moral recovery programs by religious sectors,” Camacho added.

Phase III, he said, will focus on livelihood program training with assistance from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Trade and Industry, and even private companies.

Camacho said all local governments units are now required to e establish their own drug reformation centers to attain drug-cleared status.

The other Balay Silangan centers in Pangasinan are in the towns of Sison, Basista and Balungao. and in San Carlos City.
