DPWH report: 1,708 NCR, Calabarzon projects completed

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) claimed on Monday to have completed 1,708 projects in the National Capital Region and Calabarzon in 2021.

DPWH-NCR director Nomer Abel Canlas said in an accomplishment that despite the Covid-19 pandemic the  District Engineering Offices (DEOs) in the two regions completed their projects.

In its accomplishment report, DPWH-NCR identified some of the projects including the dredging of the Pasig-Marikina River; the bike lanes along Roxas Boulevard, Osmeña Highway, Kalayaan Avenue, Shaw Boulevard, Araneta Avenue, Radial Road 8, Epifanio delos Santos Avenue, C-5; the bridge across Parañaque River adjacent to Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX; the quarantine facilities in Las Piñas and Malacañan Park; the Pasig Modular Hospital; Zapote River Drive; Mandaluyong City Jail; DENR Multi-Purpose Building; and the Marikina River Restoration Project

Canlas said they have planted some 10,652 caballero trees on  center islands of national roads all over NCR for the Clean and Green Program, even as they plan to transfer all cable lines or have them underground and adopt  more innovative systems and practices now operational in Southeast Asian countries.

Acting DPWH Secretary Roger Mercado has likewise lauded their Calabarzon Regional Office( 4-A) for successfully implementing 1,314 infrastructure projects worth  billions of pesos The projects, he noted, have contributed to the fast economic recovery of the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mercado said their Calabarzon projects are focused on easing mobility since the region is densely populated region in the country, hence our infrastructure development. “I am glad to announce that in 2021, our DPWH Region 4-A was able to accomplish a lot of roads and other vital projects despite the pandemic,” he added.

Among the Calabarzon projects he cited are vital roads and some 38 bridges aside from retrofitting 12 others. Altogether, they were worth billions of pesos.
