DFA: No Pinoy harmed in magnitude 7.6 Mexico tremor

The Department of Foreign Affairs has assured no Filipino was harmed in the magnitude 7.6 earthquake that shook Mexico on September 19,

DFA spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza said the Philippine Embassy in Mexico verbally informed them there are no Filipino casualty from the earthquake. “We have some 1,200 Filipinos in Mexico, 800 of whom are in Mexico City,” she shared.

Interestingly, the tremor rocked Mexico coincidentally on the same day two previous deadly quakes hit the country, one in September 19, 1985 and the other on the same date in 2017.

The latest earthquake’s epicenter was located 37 kilometers southeast of Aquila, near its boundary with the states of Colima and Michoacan. The site is around four hours travel from Mexico City.

Reports said one person was killed in Manzanillo in Colima after a wall collapsed at a store.
