Dengue cases soar 83% up from January 1 to July 2

The Philippines has logged 65,190 dengue cases from January 1 to July 2 this year, 83% higher than the 35,715 cases in the same period last year.

The Department of Health (DOH) said a total of 274 deaths due to dengue have been reported nationwide — 36 in January, 32 in February, 39 in March, 46 in April, 63 in May, and 58 in June.

Logging the most of the dengue cases are Central Luzon with 9,448 or 14%; Central Visayas, 7,771 (12%); and Zamboanga Peninsula, 5,708 (9%).

From June 5 to July 2 this year, 16,324 cases have been recorded, 3,196 or 20% were from Central Luzon; 1,703 or 10% were from Central Visayas; and 1,729 or 11% were from the National Capital Region (NCR). Of the country’s 17 regions, 13 have exceeded the epidemic threshold in the past four weeks.

Eight other regions — Central Luzon, MIMAROPA, Bicol, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and the Cordillera Administrative Region showed a sustained increasing trend in cases from June 5 to July 2, 2022.
