Comelec proclaims 12 winning senators

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will proclaim today, Wednesday, May 18, the 12 winning Senatorial candidates after having completed the canvass of 172 out of the 173 local and overseas Certificates of Canvass (COCs).

The Comelec National Tally Sheet Report No. 7 shows a total 55,549,791 or 83.11 percent of Filipinos out of the 66,839,976 registered have participated in the just-concluded May 9 polls.

To be accounted for yet is only COC from Lanao del Sur which will cover the special polls to be held yet in 14 barangays, and the COC from the Philippine Embassy in Beijing where China imposed a lockdown due to surges in Covid-19 cases.

The Comelec assured the votes from Lanao del Sur and China will no longer affect the results of the 12 senators.

The pol body’s canvass shows the top scoring senatoriables as follows: 1) Robin Padilla with 26,612,434 votes; 2) Loren Legarda, 24,264,979; Raffy Tulfo, 23,396,954; Sherwin Gatchalian, 20,535,261; Chiz Escudero, 20,271,458;

Mark Villar 19,475,592; Alan Peter Cayetano, 19,295,314; Migz Zubiri, 18,734,336; Joel Villanueva 18,486,034; JV Ejercito, 15,841,858; Risa Hontiveros, 15,420,807; and Jinggoy Estrada, 15,108,220 votes.

The Comelec said the winning senators will be allowed to bring five guests/ companions to their 4 p.m. proclamation on May 18 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
