BI takes custody of 2 Japanese fugitives

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has taken under its custody two fugitive Japanese nationals listed in the Interpol records, following their recent arrest by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Parañaque City.

Director Eric B. Distor, NBI officer-in-charge, said the two Japanese — Watanabe Yuki and Tomonobu Saito –have been turned over pursuant to a commitment order issued by the BI after the San Lazaro Hospital cleared the two fugitives from Covid-19.

The Interpol lists Yuki a.k.a. Kenji Shimada/Shi Shimada  as having been behind various crimes, including online fraud extortion, in Japan and other countries, the NBI said.

BI officials said Yuki is an undesirable alien and fugitive who had illegally entered the country, while Tomonobu has an overdue summary deportation order.

Another Japanese national, Kousuke Il, who was arrested with the two in a Parañaque City hotel, was recommended for release after he was found to have no derogatory or criminal records.

The three Japanese nationals temporarily detained at the NBI Security Management Section to quarantine them after Yuki tested positive for Covid-19.
